Final Report
It is a pleasure for the Salvadoran Demographic
Association (ADS) to make publicly available this
final report which documents recent trends and
current levels of fertility, contraceptive
prevalence, and morbidity, mortality and nutritional
status of children. The document also contains
important information regarding changes in
utilization of health services, particularly those
related to the sexual and reproductive health of
adolescents, and for the first time a module on the
educational status of children, ages 7 to 14, is
included.
The results presented in this report are based on
data from the 1998 National Family Health Survey (FESAL-98),
which since it is the last such survey for El
Salvador in the 20th century, takes on special
relevance in providing a broad overview of health
conditions in the Salvadoran population. It thus
serves as a basis for reviewing the policies, plans
and programs with which the Salvadoran health sector
will enter the next millennium.
Date of publication: April 2000.
